As Christmas fades for yet another year, Dublin stands up and shakes itself like a wet dog and looks around, thinking, this looks good.

Dublin is a busy city all year around and if you’re coming to visit us, there will be no shortage of things to do and to see in our wonderful capital throughout January.

1. Guinness Pro 14 Rugby

January is slap-bang-bosh right in the middle of the rugby season and there are three big games you can go see right here in Dublin. In the ultra-competitive Guinness Pro 14 Rugby, Leinster play Connacht on January 1st and a week later face Ulster on the 6th.

Then there are two weeks of European Rugby Champions Cup action with Leinster at home to old rivals Glasgow on the weekend of the 13th. Get in there.

2. David Bowie Festival

This is the second David Bowie Festival and follows on from the fantastic success of last year’s event.

It promises to be even bigger and better with movie and documentary screenings, Q&As, debates and discussions, literary, fine art and fashion events, merchandise markets, quizzes, a BowieOke sing-off, DJs and all of that sort of thing. Throughout Dublin from Friday the 5th to the 10th.

3. Temple Bar TradFest 2018

Temple Bar TradFest 2018 features traditional Irish music and culture acts over five hectic days from Wednesday 24th January to Sunday 28th January.

This is an incredible opportunity to see some of our most famous international acts together with the brightest new and upcoming local singers, dancers, musicians and bands performing in pubs, clubs, theatres and open spaces in and around Temple Bar.

4. The Sound Of Music

It’s back – The Sound Of Music will be at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre until January 6th so get your tickets and bring the whole family to one of the best, most singalongable to shows on Earth.

5. Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo

Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo is a totally new concept. For December and until January 9th there will be a mesmerizing light show at the Zoo every evening.

Designed around the lives and stories of nocturnal animals, Wild Lights uses lights, illuminated sculptures and silk lanterns with Chinese performers and then food and drink at the Chinese craft market.
