Shopping in Dublin: 7 of the Most Fashionable Places to Visit

Dublin/ 4 August 2016
Back to list

Dublin has some really great shopping in and around the city.

From the famous Grafton Street which is right beside the Fitzwilliam Hotel, to the boutiques and little Irish designer stores in the arcades and narrow streets of the city. We’ve got some big malls and shopping centres all within easy reach of the hotel and the city itself.

Where do you start? With our fashion podcast of course.

1. Dundrum Town Centre

Right outside the front door of the hotel is the LUAS tram terminus. Hop on at St. Stephen’s Green and hop off 15 minutes later at the biggest shopping centre in Ireland: Dundrum Town Centre. The list of stores is a who’s who in retail ecstasy: Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, Karen Millen, Bershka, Coast, Gap, FCUK, Holllister, Monsoon, Zara and Pandora.

2. Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre

This big and beautiful Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre is the best-known in the city and it’s actually on the same block as the Fitzwilliam Hotel. From big department stores to small boutiques and restaurants, it’s the go-to shopping centre for Dubliners.

3. Powerscourt Centre

About seven minutes from the hotel is the gorgeous Powerscourt Centre.

It’s a haven of small artisan boutiques and galleries, eateries and designer stores in what was once a family home. But don’t be deceived: It’s actually quite big, immediately impressive and well worth a visit even if you’re not actually planning to buy anything.

4. Grafton Street

The finest shopping street in Ireland starts just 20 metres from our door. Grafton Street is an iconic feast of sights and sounds with designer names, live music, great food, drink and style swirling around you.

Our biggest stores are here, including Brown Thomas and Marks & Spenser. So too are international brands like Levi’s, Disney and Vans together with Irish brands including Dunnes Stores, Lifestyle Sports and Pamela Scott. Ask anyone where to shop in Dublin and the first place they’ll mention is Grafton Street.

5. Kilkenny Shop

The flagship Kilkenny Shop is nearby too. From stylish fashion to handmade jewellery, stunning crystal and hand-thrown pottery to contemporary interior design, the Kilkenny Shop is full of wonderful Irish and internationally designer creations.

This is where some of Ireland’s top designers showcase their work, including Orla Kiely, Nicholas Mosse, Fee G, Stephen Pearce and John Rocha. They also stock beautiful Alex & Ani jewellery, see below.

6. Kildare Village

Not far from the city, and easily accessible by coach shuttle, is one of Europe’s busiest outlet shopping villages: Kildare Village. Here you’ll find all of your favourite designers – Armani, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Ted Baker, Cath Kidston, Gucci, DKNY, L.K. Bennett and Superdry with up to 60% off high street prices every day of the year.

Brown Thomas is a uniquely Irish department store. Famous, elegant and just down Grafton Street from the hotel, this is 130,000 square feet of upmarket shopping heaven. Home to brands like Hermes, Armani, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel, the tone is set by the impressive front, huge windows and the doorman in the top hat.
